Volunteer Opportunities
1. Event Volunteer
Location: San Jose and Fresno
Time commitment: 4-6 hours per month
Support the planning and execution of Shine Together events and workshops by assisting with logistics and event preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with event logistics, including food coordination, decor, and name badges
- Prepare and assemble Mommy & Me kits
- Design event and workshop flyers
- Help set up event spaces, presentations, and materials (sign-in sheets, paper, pens, and supplies, etc)
- Support event clean-up and post-event organization as needed
- Welcome and assist participants during events
- Help with events registration and check-in
- Assist with event clean-up and organizing materials following each event
- Take photos (when appropriate) to help document events and activities
- Communicate with staff to ensure event needs are met before and during the event
2. Outreach Volunteer
Location: San Jose and Fresno
Time commitment: 2-4 hours per month
Help expand Shine Together’s community presence by promoting our programs and connecting with families and partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Advocates and present on Shine Together at school sites and community organizations
- Represent Shine Together at resource fairs, community events, and school outreach activities
- Engage with community members and distribute program information and resources
- Distribute program materials, flyers, and promotional items
- Assist with recruiting new members, volunteers, and community partners
3. Fundraising & Donor Engagement Volunteer
Location: Remote Development Department
Time commitment: 8-10 hours per week
Support fundraising efforts by conducting research and helping create compelling donor communications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Social Media & Communication team to develop fundraising materials.
- Research community needs, statistics, grant opportunities, and potential funding sources.
- Assist in creating fundraising campaigns, social media content, and donor engagement materials
- Assist with donor appreciations initiatives, including thank-you cards, donor recognitions, and stewardship activities
- Support fundraising events by helping with planning, set up, and volunteer coordination
- Gather credible data and community indicators from reliable sources, including:
- Government reports
- Academic Research
- Non-Profit Publications
- Public Policy Updates
4. Social Media/Communication Volunteer
Location: Remote Development Department
Time commitment: 2-4 hours per week
Help tell the story of Shine Together by creating engaging content that celebrates our members, programs, and community impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing Shine Together’s social media platforms
- Capture photos and videos during events and workshops
- Create content highlighting:
- Member success stories
- Workshop and events
- Community Partnerships
- Volunteer highlights
- Ensure timely and consistent posting across regional social media platforms
- Create graphics using Canva or similar design platforms
- Write engaging captions and assist with storytelling that reflects Shine Together’s Mission
- Collaborate with staff on content planning and communications
